About the Area
Tullamore town has a long history, and its recent prosperity in the last few centuries is down to the canal that runs through the town, that goes from Dublin to the nearby River Shannon.
Tullamore is home to the Tullamore Dew brand, and also of interest to whiskey lovers the world over is the Locke's Distillery in nearby Kilbeggan.
Burned down in a balloon fire which was the first airborne accident on earth, Tullamore was built from scratch along planned lines by families such as the Moore's and Bury's.
It is because of this the town has the phoenix as its emblem.
